KEFALONIA WORKSHOPS
THE ONE WEEK COURSE / WORKSHOP
A purely photography focused week (well, almost - It's up to you)
It's not a holiday - but it is really
At Ginkgo Studios 2010 Kefalonia workshops, we are not offering a holiday, but we are offering a workshop with that holiday feeling...
A week on a stunning island, with stunning weather, views and people just waiting for you and your camera.
And what's more - it's all tailored to you, your wants and your needs.
Here's what the one week workshop is all about...
So you want to improve your photography, go on a course / workshop and come away with additions to your arsenal that are going to take you to the next level. Of course you do, who doesn't?!
A very real problem with the majority of photography workshops and courses is that they are usually pretty specific in what they are offering and do generally require you to have an already existing level of knowledge in order to get the most out of them. In a very ironic way, we are no different but, at the same time are very different.
As we tailor your learning plan before you arrive with us, we already know what level of experience and knowledge you have. As a result, we can plan activities in advance accommodating each individuals needs. Not only that, but given there will likely be a large spread of knowledge amongst the attendees of our workshops, this means that if you are a relative beginner, you will have the advantage of being able to learn from others more experienced than yourself too. And reciprocally, those with a greater degree of knowledge and experience can benefit from sharing it with less experienced members of the team as well of course, with each other.
So if you think that you might too experienced, or not experienced enough - then don't! This is where we are very different - we take the time to learn about you, your wants, needs and expectations before we even meet you and as such, are in a great position to ensure that no matter what your experience, you are sure to get a great deal of benefit from our workshops.
the week
As busy or as relaxed as you would like it
We also have extras available where you can separate from the group and look to specialise in areas that are of specific interest to you. Check out the 'Special activities & Extras' section for more information.
So - how does it all work then?
The days are generally broken down in to five components…
THE DAY
There is the early morning section (which is not always accompanied), where you can take advantage of the stunning sunrises and the amazing light that it casts over the island. As with everything in our workshops, nothing is mandatory. So if your not an early riser, then you can take advantage of the quiet and get some extra sleep while others are active. We will then return for breakfast and join the sleepy heads where we can discuss the morning so far and get ready for the next section of the day.
As we head off for one of the locations of the day (everywhere is within 2 hours travel) - this may be up in the mountains, on the undulating and amazing coast line, in the capitols bustling market place or by one of the many harbours, or countless other places - Those that have chosen one of the special activities & extras will head off to those. The aim is to be back by about 2pm (ish) except on a couple of days, where we will be out until sunset, where you can either siesta with the locals, do your own thing for a few hours or get together to discuss, process some images or whatever you fancy.
THE EVENING
The light in Keaflonia is something to behold. The evenings in Kefalonia are truely unique
At about 5pm, life starts to reappear on the island and the light can begin to fade. This is the time that the most amazing sunsets you will ever see are made. And guess what - we are not going to let that opportunity pass us by, wherever we are!
After the light has faded away to leave the staccato filled blackness of the night punctuated by the moon, stars and glistening lights of Zackinthos on the horizon, it's getting close to time to head for the tavernas, which sometimes will be opened specifically for you. Here we can eat, drink and review what the day has brought, people watch, get some candid street snaps in the towns or tourists areas (thankfully there are only two), soak up the evening atmosphere and scents as we start to wind down and enjoy the opportunity to relax in good company. Entertainment will sometimes be provided giving yet more great moments to capture - and yes, we'll show you exactly how to do it so they are great. Some evening will be reviews of the day at a local taverna, most will be group discussions by candle light by the pool with the barbecue sizzling away and a large screened iMac to show some great workflow and post processing techniques that we guarantee will save you time and really make your work sing and be heard.
WINDING DOWN
All work and no play...
And yes, there is a small ‘open late’ night shop to re-stock your fridges should you feel the urge to take advantage of joining the other sleepy heads the following morning - Oh, and there's a pharmacy just up the road too should you need that the following morning.
As mentioned already, we are here to give you what you want from us - If that means filling every waking moment of the day 100% focused on photography and nothing else, then we'll make sure that is what you get. But if you want to take more time to enjoy the atmosphere, the company and the stunning Greek island that is Kefalonia, then we are good with that approach too. We want to make the workshop a very special experience and learning process tailored to you...
There is the ability to extend your time with us beyond the week of the workshop. Simply let us know how long you would like and we can make the accommodation arrangements for you.
Should you will be with us for longer, you may want to take advantage of some of the additional services and specials that we are and will be offering. Including our island hopping and mainland trips that we have on offer. Check out the 'Specials & Extras' section at the bottom of the 'Workshops' page. Just remember that you may have to click the 'Show All' button to see it as the page would be rather long otherwise - We just have so much we can offer you!
